Coastal Connections

Written By Nancy Pardue

Listen carefully … hear the ocean waves crashing?

Shuck ’Em Shack Oyster Bar has brought the beach to Garner, offering freshly delivered specialties from the coast. Open the screen door and come on in!

The restaurant is a new venture for locals Phil and Erica Banks, also both active real estate agents in the Garner area. “We love the beach, but my heart is in Garner,” said Phil. “If we couldn’t do this here, I didn’t want to do it.”

While the Banks family is enjoying entrepreneurship, customers are enjoying a menu of fried and steamed seafood and other specialties. Most requested dishes are the oysters, shrimp and wings.

“The shrimp are big, nice and fat, and we’ve got three different seasonings for them,” Banks said. “And the oysters … they just taste really good.”

For wings, by far the most popular topping is the house Shack Sauce; Banks calls it “ranch-y, orangey, and spicy, different than most.”

Also on the landlubber menu are a special house burger, sandwiches and “the best chicken salad ever.”

“Everybody can find something to eat here,” Banks said, including families and couples who stop by to enjoy a meal between movie showings at the adjacent White Oak Cinemas.

Daily lunch specials offer menu favorites such as flounder or crab cake plates, sandwiches and more for $7.99, with take-out available.

Shuck ’Em Shack seats 48, with the patio opening in April to add sun and breeze to its beach-style way of dining.

I go to the Shuck em Shack weekly and I think it has a great beachy atmosphere, the service is great, the food is to die for (my favorite is the mozzarella sticks), the wings are very spicy and delicious (I dare you to try them), the chicken strips are very tasty, the burgers are fat and juicy. Guess you've figured by now that I'm a landlubber. Unlike the "anonymous" (if you really feel this strongly, you should own it) comments above, I think the service and management is the best!

This place was just gross. The service was bad and the food was worse. It is over priced too. I have never met a single person who recommends this place. In fact, all of my friends told me to avoid it, but I wanted to give it a shot. Never again!

Had lunch at Shuck 'em last week with friends, we loved the fun atmosphere and enjoyed our meals. As a landlubber, i got chicken salad - very good. and that pretzel bread - different and yummy!

I totally agree with the previous comment. I ordered oysters on the half shell hoping to get them freshly shucked but no, they apparently had done them ahead of time. Then I ordered fried oysters and was served only three with the waitress saying the rest would be out later. Well she served me three more that looked like they had been burnt.

If you want to have a horrible experience eat here! Worst service and management I have ever seen. Not sure who wrote this article but they didn't see the same Shuck Em Shack as everyone else. Food is not good either. Hopefully this restaurant won't be here much longer.
