New Seafood Restaurant Aims To Please

 Kelley McLaughlin

Looking for a casual, family-friendly seafood restaurant? Or maybe you just want a taste of the coast without the drive or price tag. No matter what, if it’s seafood you’re craving, look no further than Main Street Seafood in Clayton.

Opened in May, Main Street Seafood offers a wide variety of seafood for customers of all ages, at reasonable prices.

“The restaurant is designed for everyone,” said owner James Fawcett. “We tried to make it so that anyone can walk in and find something they want to eat that is in their price range.”

The restaurant serves lunch and dinner, with smaller portions of the same dishes available at lunch.

The dinner menu offers full plates featuring a main dish such as trout or flounder, accompanied by sides of coleslaw, applesauce, hush puppies, fries or a baked potato.

Fans of Pier 33, the restaurant previously located at 312 Main St., can also find their favorite Pier 33 dishes, or variations of them, on Main Street Seafood’s menu, as the new owners blended old with the new.

The Pier Platter, for example, remains the same, complete with shrimp, oysters, deviled crab, clam strips and your choice of fish. The popular Boiled Platter is also available, with a new seafood and lemon seasoning.

Customers also seem to like the new coleslaw recipe, Fawcett said, and new to the menu is Coconut Shrimp, quickly becoming one of the restaurant’s most popular dishes.

The Clayton community has welcomed Main Street Seafood with open arms, Fawcett said.

“I’d say (the response) has been really positive. We are getting a lot of repeat business, seeing the same people coming in and bringing their friends,” he said.

Main Street Seafood is open for lunch Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and Sundays. from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dinner is served Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m., and Thursdays through Saturdays from 4:30 to 9 p.m.

Reservations are not required, and large groups are welcome. For more information, call (919) 550-0093.

Also in Downtown Clayton, the 2010 Millstock Music and Art Faire will be held this Saturday, June 5, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Megafun, with music described as “nuanced, neo folk,” is the headlining band.

They will be accompanied by various musicians throughout the day beginning at 11 a.m. Other activities include a sidewalk chalk art contest and new this year, the Millstock Wine Tasting being held at Fancy That from 1 to 4 p.m.

This was the worst service we have ever had. Kept asking for hushpuppies and we were told they got burned and they were cooking more. We never got any. No baked potato (it was on the menu)no butter.....no butter in a restaurant. No take out boxes. The food wasn't that good either.
